Fund Raising News 2011

You will all know by now about our Big Lottery Fund success. The
Reaching Communities grant which we’ve been awarded will help us to
carry on funding the activities and services we know you enjoy. It is
important to note that great as the Lottery funding is, it is dependant
on us continuing to raise funds ourselves too.

Luckily for us, we’ve had extra support from various places - thanks to
those of you who have nominated us for these awards.

We can’t write about raising funds and not mention York City in the Community. Huge thanks to them for nominating us as one of their two named charities. They were pleased to be working with a children’s charity as it meant they could offer their expertise to us for free. They gave Lollipop members the opportunity to take part in a five a side football tournament and to receive football coaching (for ages 5 to 9 years and 10 to 19). All who went to the game they invited us to in March really enjoyed ourselves, despite the cold weather! The Christmas party in 2010 also had a football theme to reflect YCFC’s involvement through the year. Over the year they raised a whopping £2,000 for Lollipop - many thanks, York City.

We must also mention Wacky Warehouse and The Flying Legends on Clifton Moor. Not only did Lollipop members aged 0 to 11 enjoy a complimentary exclusive private party there last November, they are also collecting funds in the bar and the playsite on our behalf. Thank you to all concerned for your support.

Does anyone reading this newsletter like Nando’s? We do! A group of staff from the restaurant on High Ousegate organised and took part in a sponsored bike ride for Lollipop. They sent a cheque of £550 to us, which we really appreciate.

Additional thanks go to any one of you who showed your support for Lollipop by ‘posting’ your green charity tokens at Waitrose for our charity. This resulted in £265 being given to Lollipop by the supermarket. So thank YOU.

Mr Peter O’ Hara also swelled the Lollipop accounts when he held a raffle in our name at a barbeque he had recently. This raised an amazing total of £1,250. Thanks ever so much to him for his efforts.

We’d also like to give a big thank you to all those who have supported and helped out at the Lollipop stall at park fairs across York. To date, we’ve raised £482 to add to Lollipop funds. There are two more to come in the summer holidays:

Hull Road Park Fair on Saturday 13th Aug 1 -3 pm
Acomb Green Fair on Saturday 27th Aug 1 - 3.30pm.

Please come along and show your support if you’re able to!

It’s only six months to Christmas!
Many thanks to all of you who helped with the Christmas cards over the past two years, whether you helped design, pack or sell them. We made a grand total of £1,503 profit for Lollipop through them. Unfortunately, there will be no time for us to create new cards this year due to the move to our new premises and our increasing membership numbers. We are very sorry, as we know you’ve enjoyed making and distributing them; we really have appreciated your efforts and look forward to working on new designs with you next autumn.

With Christmas in mind, we are beginning to think about our 2nd Prize Draw, which will be taking place this December. Is there anyone you know who you could ask to donate a prize? It would be fantastic if we could offer a meal in a restaurant, an overnight stay in a hotel (no need for it to be in York!) or a relaxation treatment as our star prize. Please
contact us if you think you - or someone you know - could help out.
